Partial Solar Eclipse (August 2026)

August 12th, 08:11pm, an 85% partial solar eclipse passed by Hamburg, Germany. These photos were taken with two different bodies of the same camera model (Samsung NX3000), lenses and infrared filters (all were shot with ISO 100):

  • Red photos (1-9): Samsung 50-200mm f4.5-5.6, unmodified body, variable infrared filter (530-750nm). Photos were shot at all different combinations of focal length, aperture, exposure time, and filter settings. Most were shot between 530 and 650nm, for the darkest one I used a dedicated 720nm filter.
  • Monochrome photos (10-13): Osawa MC 135mm f2.8 (~235mm on my body), body modified for infrared photography by removing the hot mirror, 950nm infrared filter. All photos shot at 1/4000s and f.22. Since the visible light spectrum ends at around 720nm, the photos should be black & white; their light blue content is a result of an imprecise digital RAW development process.
